What’s your primary style?
Our style is something that we created ourselves. It is called N Style. N Style is a mixture of photojournalistic, artistic, creative and traditional photography that is mixed, blended and adapted to fit the client’s style and character.
How long have you been doing this?
We started photographing weddings around 2004-2005. Before that I did sports photography from 2002-2006 but have always taken photos since I was in high school. When I started doing weddings is when my wife joined the team.
What is the hardest part about being a wedding photographer?
When you love what you do and make a career out of it, nothing is hard anymore. Sure there will be an occasional challenge that may come up. When they do, we use my passion and love for photography to push through it.
What’s your favorite part of a wedding?
This is very hard to say because I like everything about the wedding day. We love watching a story unfold as the day goes on. If I had to pick just one part then it would be the time we spend alone with just the bride and groom. Some of the best moments are when it is just the couple and I and not everyone else around with eyes on them. Most couples are more at ease when they are alone and this leads to more intimate and loving photos that brings out their character and style.
What would you tell a bride to help her get the most from her photography on her wedding day?
Make sure you plan on having enough time for your photography. If you are not sure, talk with the photographer when you are planning the events for the day. We love to help brides plan their day. It is our job to capture your day and if you allow enough time for photography, we can assure you that your photos will be more than you could have asked for. It is also nice to have an idea of what you like and don’t like as far as photography goes. This also helps with the flow of the day and to get your photos done as efficiently as possible.
What advice would you give a bride looking for a wedding photographer?
We think it is an absolute must that you click with your photographer. You will be spending the day together and you want the day to be as fun and easy going as possible. After all, the photographer is telling the story of your day and it is so much easy to tell a story of people that get along very well with each other. The other thing that we would say is just as equally important. You must love their work! It will show in their attitude and their work.
How important is it to hire an experienced wedding photographer?
Extremely important if you want great photos! This is a once in a lifetime event and requires someone that knows what is going on and knows what to expect to happen at any given moment. An experienced photographer will know where to be and when to capture those once in a lifetime moments.
Do you shoot in color or black and white? Or both?
We shoot everything in color but if we feel a particular photo should be in black and white then we will make it black and white.
Are you the wedding photographer who will actually take our pictures?
Yes I am. If you book 2 photographers then I will be the main photographer and the second photographer will be there to capture alternate views.
Do you develop your own film?
We do not shoot film anymore but if you mean do we do our own editing, then yes we do.
Do you offer albums?
Of course we offer albums. We think every bride should get an album of their wedding. Once you have kids, your wedding photos that were once on the walls of your house will be replaced with pictures of your kids. A wedding album will always have its place on a coffee table.
Do you allow other people to shoot during a wedding?
We do not mind at all if you have a family member or friend that wants to shoot some photos. The only thing we ask is if no one else is shooting while we are photographing just the bride and groom and the bridal party. We need to have everyone looking at us and when you have 5 or 6 people behind me with a camera it is hard to get 20 or 30 people to look just at me when everyone is calling their name to look at them. We do not mind if you take photos after we get our shots. We just as that your guests respect the fact that we are there to do a job and they are there to relax and have fun
Do you bring back-up equipment?
You mean there are people that do not bring backup equipment? I think I bring so much stuff that my back hurts by the end of the day for carrying stuff I did not even use.
Do you book more than one wedding per day?
We would never book more than one wedding per day. We also try to not book more than one wedding in a weekend.
How far in advance do you book weddings?
We book most weddings a year in advance but there are times when a bride will contact us just a few weeks or months before their big day and we sometimes have their date open. Waiting until the last minute to book us is a gamble because there is a good possibility we will be booked. We do limit how many weddings we take per year and just because the date might be open, we might already be over our limit on how many weddings we take. The reason we limit how many weddings we do per year is so we can dedicate the desired amount of time with each client to produce amazing photos and albums for them.
When do you receive your photos?
Our contract says 6-8 weeks but we like to have them done sooner! We strive to get your images posted on our blog and your online gallery as quickly as we can. We will also deliver the cd with the proofs when we deliver your album.
When do you receive your album?
As soon as your album is designed and a proof is presented to you and approved. We will submit the design to our album supplier. They will print and ship the book to us within 30 days of receiving the files from us. To expedite this process even faster, we like to provide you with an album design and then you make changes. This usually gets you an amazing album designed in a short amount of time.
You still have the option to pick every photo that goes in to your book but this will take more time. You have to take the time to pick the photos, and then we have to design an album that flows with all of the photos you picked. This is more work on your part and who wants to work after they just spend months working hard to make their wedding day perfect?
How will the photos be delivered?
All of your photos will be delivered 2 ways. The first way is in an online gallery that is password protected for you to share with your family and friends. The second is a DVD with all of the images on it in a jpg format that is ready to print at most labs. All you have to do is pop the disc in at your local store and select which photos you want printed. These images are all cropped, color corrected and some minor editing done to make your images stand out when printed.
Where do you suggest to get prints made?
You are welcome to print your photos anywhere you like. We cannot guarantee the quality of prints you will get from a drugstore or local photo store because we do not use them and they do not go through the great measures of calibrating like our professional labs do. If you want the best quality prints and enlargements then we can guarantee the quality from our lab as they are a professional lab using the best professional photographic papers and printers. If you order within the first 30 days your gallery is online, you will get a nice discount too
What kind of cameras do you use?
I am a Nikon shooter.
Some photographers put their logo all over their work. Will our photos have your logo marked all over our prints?
Not a chance! We think that is tacky and ruins your photographs and takes them from art to a low class ad. Everything on the proof DVD and online gallery will not have any markings on the photo. The back of the print is stamped with our copyright but the front is clean. The only things we will put our logo on are any images we give you to share on social media sites like facebook or twitter. We recommend you use the social media versions of the files we give you because we make sure they are sharpened properly for viewing on the web and make you look your best.
Can you photograph in all situations?
Within reason, yes! Of course if there were a tornado or something crazy broke out in the middle of the day, we might not be able to but then again who couldBut in all seriousness, we have mentioned before that we shot in almost near dark venues and churches, extremely bright sunny days and cold wet and rainy days. With our years of experience, we can shoot in almost any situation that is given to us. If we need extra light, we have extra flashes and studio lighting to make any situation work. We use high quality lenses and cameras that let us almost see in the dark. Knowing how to properly use our equipment will ensure that we can capture your day in almost any situation.
Have you experienced any difficult weddings or challenges and how have you overcome those situations?
As a wedding photographer, or any type of photographer, you will always be faced with challenges during the job. It is our job to quickly overcome those situations and prevent them from becoming a challenge and turn them in to an amazing experience for the client.
Do you have insurance?
Of course we do. We would not dream of shooting a wedding without insurance.
